It is finally here; today is the day you have been waiting for all these weeks. Your bills have been paid, no meetings, no appointments, and no obligations. Today your only obligation is to be a bum and lounge around the house with a bag full of edibles and a bag full of snacks. It sure does feel nice to have days like this on occasion where the ultimate purpose is getting royally baked and vegging out all day long. The only thing between you and the perfect lazy day right now is deciding what to watch. It can be really hard on the bedazzled brain to make a decision with all those choices out there. That is why we composed a list of the 13 best stoner movies of all time! So you can sit back, relax, enjoy a toke, and watch these movies without much more thought put into it.

We’ve ranked our favorites with 13 being the worst and 1 being the best of the best movies!  Pop some popcorn, grab some Funyuns, get a soda, grab some pizza, open a bag of m&m’s, grab those gummy candies, oh wait, don’t forget the bowl! Damnit, you forgot the lighter, get back up and grab that. Snuggle into your dent on the couch or bed and throw one of these classics into the VCR.

At Number 13 Soul Plane (2004)

Fitting into the so bad that it is good category, Soul Plane is like a time capsule that did not hold up with age. Filled with stereotypes and movie tropes from a bygone era this one is best served up while severely high. The crude jokes and borderline racist riffs will be good for a chuckle occasionally, but more often a subtle cringe. The story follows Nashawn Wade (Kevin Hart) who has a horrendous experience on a typical airline. After this trauma, he sues them and wins $100,000,000 that he uses to start his own airline. Using a plane that is painted purple and outfitted with low rider hydraulics and spinner rims. This box office flop was billed as an “urban” take on the movie Airplane but failed miserably to compare. If looking for a stupid movie that makes you chuckle at the sometimes offensive humor, then look no further than Soul Plane. If doubtful just go watch the trailer for a great trip down nostalgia lane and an awkward laugh or two.

At Number 12: Your Highness (2011)

Next up on our list is another box office turd. However, it makes for a great movie to watch while baked on the couch. With James Franco as one of the main characters, you will be tempted into thinking you are watching something better like Pineapple Express. In truth, you are watching a weird movie set in a fantasy universe, but with stoner like elements and odd sexual jokes. Nonetheless, this neck beard’s wet dream is highly entertaining, especially when properly inebriated. It’s got the right mix of drugs, naked forest nymphs, and violence to keep you moving to the next scene. The most baffling, but best part about the movie is how none of the actors seem to be taking it seriously. In every scene, I half expected them to turn to the camera and say, “Nah, just messing with you!” That never happened though, and I was left watching a very Hobbit-Esque movie with weird and heavy sexual overtones.

Number 11: High School High (1996)

Now we are getting into true classic territory here, it is hard to believe this movie is almost 30 years old. For some reason, in the 90s, there was a push to make movies about school but also about weed. In fact, this movie is basically just a cheap rip off and crappier version of How High. High School High is another one of those movies littered with urban stereotypes, sexual humor, and insensitive cultural jabs it is like a time machine back to the 90s. It attempts to parody movies like The Substitute and Grease but just falls flat on its face in the process. This is where the hilarity ensues as it is so bad that it is good. Take a few extra milligrams for this one and sit back to marvel at the beautiful blend of bad acting and outdated stereotypes.

Number 10: How High (2001)

Remember when I said High School High was a cheap rip off of How High? Imagine my embarrassment when I found out that How High (made in 2001) is actually a better rip off of High School High (made in 1996). Truthfully, it comes as no surprise that both of these movies are equally crappy, but still fun as hell to watch. Both seem to come from that time when the exploitation of stereotypes and crude sexual humor was the way to belt out a comedy movie. This honestly does not hurt the fun that can be had watching these as it is an excellent walk down nostalgia lane for us old folks and just a bizarre piece of history for the youngins. All that being said How High is by far better than High School High despite their obvious similarities. It follows the story of Silas (Method Man) and Jamal (Redman) who smoke the ashes of their dead friend. This friend then shows up as a ghost to give them the answers to tests getting them into Harvard. Just like the one before this, it might be a good idea to enjoy an extra toke before firing up this one.

9: Dazed and Confused (1993)

Next time you watch Dazed and Confused you should roll up a joint beforehand. It’d be a lot cooler if you did. Everyone has seen this classic about high school life in the 70s. If you haven’t, then you’ve either clearly lived under a rock or lived a very sheltered childhood akin to living under a rock. This one follows a group of Texas teens on their last day of school before the summer starts. It shows their struggle trying to get a massive graduation party started and the crazy stories that ensue as a result. Dazed and Confused is a true classic in every sense of the word and invokes nothing but fun a sense of teenage freedom.

Number 8: Up In Smoke (1978)

Ahhh, another classic here and probably the oldest on this list. Cheech and Chong are the classic stoners, the OG potheads if you will. These movies are so classic they might as well be black and white or silent. Up In Smoke still manages to bring in the laughs and it is incredible to see how much the world’s view of marijuana has changed over the past 42 years. Cheech and Chong were the Jay and Silent Bob of our parent’s generation and that itself is just awesome. Roll up a doobie full of reefer as my pops used to call it and enjoy this classic stoner fest the retro way. Or better yet, remember that time Chong got sent to prison for 9 months for selling glass pipes? You might wanna set yourself up with a nice glass bong or pipe before you watch this all time stoner classic. Get yourself a nice glass piece and get high while knowing those old draconian laws are going Up In Smoke.

Number 7: Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989)

Possibly the hardest to place on this entire list Bill and Ted are another classic pair of slacker stoners that everyone loves. Their adventure that is truly excellent takes us across space and time with the use of a phone booth that doubles as a time machine. Join these burnouts as they research a school paper traveling to historical periods and kidnapping prominent figures of the times. Not only is it a trip to see Keanu Reeves (Bill) in this comedic capacity, but it is awesome to see George Carlin (Rufus) in his prime. Bill & Ted’s is absolutely an excellent adventure from start to finish and a great way to travel without ever leaving the couch. Party on dude!

Number 6: Super Troopers (2001)

One of the most shocking, unflinching, eye-opening films about cops ever made. Super Troopers centers on a group of five Vermont State Troopers and their fight in the war on drugs. Nah, just kidding, this movie is a stoner classic following the misadventures of these cops messing with the public. Super Troopers has spawned many classic quotes such as, “I’m freaking out man!” and “Liter of cola.” It’s a great movie that is hilariously silly and probably helped to create other classics such as Reno 911! If you are baked and looking for a movie that will get you laughing out loud, then I suggest watching Super Troopers right “Meow!”

Number 5 : Pineapple Express (2008)

When Seth Rogan, America’s sweetheart stoner, teams up with James Franco, um, America’s other sweetheart stoner, you are sure to have a great mix. This comedic duo is at its best in Pineapple Express. A ridiculous adventure of the drug dealer Saul (Franco) and drug buyer Dale (Rogan) that get caught up in a murder conspiracy. Craziness envelops their lives driving these two polar opposites into a budding friendship. This one is another truly great laugh-fest and is best enjoyed with a bong in hand. In fact, a vaporizer might be better for this one so you can get insanely blitz and glue yourself to the sofa. A great place to pick up a desktop version to leave on the coffee table is right here in our desktop vaporizer section of the smoke shop.  You can thank us later.

Number 4: Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001)

Some would call Jay and Silent Bob the Cheech and Chong of our time. I think we even did earlier in this list. In some ways, this is very true, but obviously not in many other ways. Jay is kind of annoying and so typically New Jersey, whereas Silent Bob is well… silent. Rarely does Bob have anything to say and when he does, it is usually to spout out something semi-smart or chide Jay for his idiotic behavior. This classic follows the story of our titular slacker stoners on their way to Hollywood, California. They are headed there to stop a movie being made about the comic book characters that are based upon them. This one is best enjoyed if you have seen other Kevin Smith classics such as Clerks and Dogma. However, the stupid comedy and cameos ham-fisted into this one make for some great fun on its own while feeling faded. Just do yourself a favor and do not ruin it by watching the Reboot (2019). That one was absolute trash and not even in a so bad it is good kind of way.

Nmber 3: Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle (2004)

After Harold and Kumar smoke some pot and get the munchies, they decide to take a trek to White Castle for some of those delicious sliders. In this story, we join them in the misadventures that happen along the way. Like being rescued by a boil-covered truck driver named Freakshow and later picking up a hitchhiker that turns out to be Neil Patrick Harris. Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle is one of those truly classic stoner movies filled with ridiculous themes and scores high in the laugh factor. Our favorite way to enjoy this one is with some microwavable White Castle sliders and a full belly of edibles. Better than that would be to take your own adventure to the nearest White Castle for some freshies. You’ll need a pretty sweet portable vape for that adventure and we think you will find just what you need in this section of the smoke shop that has plenty of small and discreet dry herb and concentrates vaporizers to choose from.

Number 2: Half Baked (1998)

This one almost grabbed the number one spot on our list, but we opted for seniority to pick the winner. Anyways Half Baked is the classic of classics when it comes to stoner films. This movie starring the young Dave Chappelle was where many Gen Xers and Millenials were introduced to the glorious world of marijuana in a semi-positive light. It follows the story of four stoners and their adventures in becoming some of New York’s biggest drug dealers when they catch the attention of Samson the current big fish in the pond. This leads to a hilarious story that any pothead will laugh too. Be sure to pack up Billy Bong Thornton for this one and have your buds grab plenty of munchies. If they ain’t back in ten minutes call Dominos.

Number 1: Friday (1995)

It was a toss-up between this one and Half Baked for the number one spot on our list. Friday won as it is three years older than Half Baked and deserves the recognition as being a typical stoner comedy in the modern sense. Sure Cheech and Chong were classic stoners and definitely paved the way in a lot of respects. However, it wasn’t until the 90s that smoking weed began to move away from the counterculture and into the limelight. Friday’s plot revolves around Craig (Ice Cube) and drug dealing best friend Smokey (Chris Tucker) hanging out on the front porch on a Friday. These unemployed buddies see the crazy happenings that go on in their neighborhood from a first-hand perspective. The events get crazier and crazier as the day wears on resulting in a bunch of laughs for us the audience. Friday was an excellent stoner movie that spawned two sequels, Next Friday (2000) and Friday After Next (2002), that was not nearly as good as the original but great to watch nonetheless. Incredibly a fourth installment is on the way called Last Friday and is rumored to be released in 2020. The Friday movies alone are a great trilogy to throw on the tube while getting high all day.

We hope our list helped you pick out something to watch on your lazy day. We tried our best not to spoil any of these titles while listing them so you can enjoy it as originally intended. Remember that even the bad ones on this are awesome when in the right mindset. I sense a marathon coming on, worst to best, go now!

I know this is not all the great stoner movies but these here are some of our favorite that just stand out above the rest! So like you I am now going to find a dispensary near me, stop at the convenience store for the munchies and get my couch lock on! Enjoy!
